Solar House Day: Lecture & Bus Tour

Each year the ACT chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects’ Solar House Day event showcases great sustainable, solar passive design in Canberra.

A public lecture and exhibition on a weeknight (gold coin donation entry) is followed by a weekend bus tour, allowing participants to view the region’s best climate-appropriate dwellings. The theme of this year's lecture & exhibition is Hot Housing

Light House homes/clients have participated in Solar House Day for many years and we intend to continue supporting this great event.

RSVP to the lecture and exhibition here and purchase tickets for the 2017 Solar House Day Bus tour on Sunday 30th July here.

You can read an article about the 2016 Solar House Day lecture and bus tours here.

Sustainable House Day open homes

Sustainable House Day gives people a chance to visit houses that have been designed, built or renovated with sustainability in mind, as well as the opportunity to talk to owners and receive loads of great tips and ideas.

This year, Light House director and scientist, Jenny, will be opening her new and exciting, smaller and smarter, 8.2 star home to the public - more info about it will appear on the website soon.

To find out more about the event and to keep posted on all of the great homes that will be open on the day, register here.

DESIGN Canberra

DESIGN Canberra celebrates and promotes Canberra as a global city of design. It is BRILLIANT!

Throughout November 2017, over 100 events, exhibitions, talks, tours, activations, markets, collaborations, artist studios and open homes will be showcased as DESIGN Canberra, transforming the nation’s capital into a new platform for the best in design. The festival, now in its 4th year, is for all interests and ages and most events are free.

Last year, two Light House homes were opened to the public as part of the 'Living Rooms' series and another two projects were part of the 'Innovative Architecture by Emerging Architects' bus tour. We were also honoured to loan our much loved Light House F!NK jug to the festival organisers to be part of the LUMINARY: REMEMBERING ROBERT FOSTER exhibition.

We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with our generous clients and other local designers to showcase a variety of great Canberra design in 2016 and look forward to being involved again this year. Stay up-to-date with the wider festival program here.

SEE-Change Sustainable House Tour of Jenny's new home

SEE-Change, ACTSmart and the Australian Institute of Architects collaborate to deliver monthly ‘over-the-back-fence’ tours of sustainable houses, townhouses and apartments around Canberra.

In May, the new 8.2 star, 4 bedroom, 150 square metre home of Light House Director/Scientist Jenny and her partner, David (+ 2 teenage boys + dog), will be open for a squiz! Located on a tricky 405 square metre block in Wright the clever, compact house uses excellent design plus a range of new and old technologies to keep it at comfy temperatures all year round.

For more info, and to register, keep an eye on the SEE-Change events page .
