First national radio gig — 2012

Jenergy when she had more energy, in 2012.

This morning, Jenny re-discovered the Radio National Background Briefing story she contributed to back in 2012 when she lived in her former, renovated home - Thorn Place House. This was three years after she had left her science communication and policy career to get very hands-on. It also includes an interview with a real estate agent, Peta, who went on to become a client and moved into her own Light House (Finniss House) at the end of 2016 (just prior to Jenny moving into her new home in early 2017). We practice what we preach to this day!

Broadcast on the 1st April 2012 it was no fool’s day prank. Ten years on, Jenny finds herself saying many of the same things (just with grey hair and without the energy to fight the curls!). However, we are pleased to report that energy assessors are now required to complete more rigorous training and the general public’s understanding of energy efficiency rating (EER) has definitely improved, as have the ratings achieved by new homes and renovations [mind you, 160+ Light House projects have contributed to that]! This was quite a blast from the past for Jenny.

There is more to the story of why Jenny changed careers in 2009 and it involves a Carbon Cop, Lish Fejer… but that can wait for another day.
