Canberra's Low Carbon Housing Challenge

Proof that bigger does not equal better! On Monday night four of our projects picked up gongs in the inaugural Canberra Low Carbon Housing Challenge.

We won first and second prize in the Alteration and Additions category with our NET-ZERO ‘Pettit & Sevitt Revival’ in Lyons and our LOW CARBON ‘Little Loft House’ in Giralang.

In the New Detached Homes category we were awarded commendations for our NET-ZERO ‘White House’ in O’Connor and our LOW CARBON ‘Canberra Beach House’ in Wright.

We also had two other fabulous Alteration and Additions projects entered: the super NET-ZERO ‘Blackburn House’ aka ‘Net-Zero Ex-Govie Makeover’ in Watson and the LOW CARBON ‘Aston Reshuffle’ in Cook.

Smaller, smarter, and sustainable. Comfortable, climate-resilient and low carbon.

Space-efficiency and material-efficiency are just as important as energy-efficiency. We love that we can now quantify the embodied energy as well as the operational energy of our projects.

Architecture + Science is a powerful combination. We are also incredibly proud of our diverse and collaborative team — there were 5 different lead Light House designers and 5 different builders involved in these projects (not to mention the science team, modelling during design and testing during build, on each one).

Huge thanks to the Canberra Low Carbon Housing team. Massive congratulations to all the other winners tonight. You can read more about the winners of the Low Carbon Housing Challenge here.
